Wow! This "honeymoon" period is spoken of in the workbook we lectors use to prepare for our readings. It sounds like this deacon used that same resource but stopped reading before this: "This passage is not a history lesson; it's a beacon shining through the ages, illuminating the possibilities of Christian life. Heroism, idealism, and selflessness are all possible in that beacon's bright light." But I will say that the best homilies are the ones that make us think, so in that sense that southern homily you heard was Great! ;)

I am sorry we missed the concert. I purchased my tickets a week before the show, but we stayed home due to the bad weather. I would love a reprise!

This is so true. God doesn't zap us with suffering but works with us and through us in the midst of our suffering. He can bring good out of anything, as you pointed out so well. Sometimes pain can be powerfully motivating when we need to make changes. C.S. Lewis said something like, "God whispers to us in our pleasures, but shouts to us in our pain." Thanks for the reminder.

Hi, Constance. Any collection that we take up will be monetary so that the people on the ground can purchase what is needed most, and that collection will be taken through Catholic Relief Services. CRS is the most reliable and efficient disaster relief group that we work with, which is why we go through them. They know how to navigate in situations like that and are very effective. If you would like to donate now, please click www.crs.org/japan.

Thanks for your comment.
Jen.

A very close friend just asked me to start a prayer chain for her son Matt. He was in a serious skiing accident and is being sent to a trauma center. She would like as many prayers as possible for him. Thank you!
