Second Sunday of Easter

My Dear Parish Family,

Happy Easter to you all! No, I’m not late in wishing this to you, because the Easter Season lasts all the way through 50 days to the Feast of Pentecost. I cannot remember the last time we had such beautiful weather for Holy Week and Easter Sunday. It was really a blessing. {Hopefully, all of you who suffered basement water problems have dried out by now!}

This weekend we celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday. During the course of Jesus’ revelations to Saint Faustina Kowalska on the Divine Mercy, He asked on numerous occasions that a feast day be dedicated to the Divine Mercy and that this feast be celebrated on the Sunday after Easter. The liturgical texts of that day, the 2nd Sunday of Easter, concern the institution of the Sacrament of Penance, the Tribunal of the Divine Mercy, and so are already suited to the request of Our Lord.

This feast was granted to the Universal Church by Pope John Paul II on the occasion of the canonization of Sr. Faustina on 30 April 2000. On this day devotions and novenas are prayed to the Divine Mercy of our Lord. The great promise for individuals is that a devotional act of sacramental penance and Communion will obtain for their souls the fullness of the divine mercy on the Feast.

Let us give God thanks now and always for His great mercy to all.

One Response to Second Sunday of Easter

  1. Filippo says:

    I am asking as many feollw Christians, in their belief in how good God is, to pray for me and the help II need in overcoming high blood pressure. I need a miracle. In His love for me, I anticipate He wants me to be well and can easily provide the needed miracle, through the prayers and intercessions of loving, feollw Christians.
